On a warm muggy day thirty ladies contested The “Lingard Trophy” and the “Sutcliffe Cup”.

The quarter finalists in the main event “The Lingard Trophy” were Christine Austin, Val Bax, Joanna Branney, Marion Reynolds, Anne Mullaney, Elspeth Hartley, Barbara Gee and Marian Quick. Notable performances were by Christine  who beat Val  15-12, Joanna who defeated Marion 15-10, Anne defeated Elspeth 15-12 and Marian who beat Barbara 15-9.

Joanna and Marian both showed their experience as they came through their semi-finals against Christine and Anne. Anne, who plays on the ladies “C” team bowled superbly.

The final between Joanna and Marian was a “nip and tuck” encounter with Joanna bowling a medium finger peg mark and Marian concentrating on a shorter straight mark. Joanna was leading all the way at 13-8, before the final stages of the game when Marian won the jack and ran out a 15-13 winner as she scored 5 singles and a pair without reply.

The “Sutcliffe Cup” was contested between Alison Lister and Pam Shaw. In the semi-finals, Alison had beaten Marilyn Greenwood 15-9 and in a thrilling semi-final Pam came out on top 15-14 against new bowler Ann Booth.

The ladies enjoyed the day which included a superb lunch, strawberries and cream and “Afternoon Tea” which included the favourite “Cream Cakes”. The prizes were presented by the Lady President Margot Handsley to Marian Quick and Pam Shaw. Margot thanked everyone for their support and the men who helped with the measuring.
