There were two outstanding performances in the Monday Evening Fours by Up the Edge (Andy Balmford, John Sharp, Keith Hatzer, Trevor Gasson) and  Spartans (John Hamer, Pam Robinson, Brian Holder, David holder).

Up the Edge faced the leaders Amethyst (Les Holmes, Pauline Holroyd, Philip Holroyd, Gareth Coates) and in a “nip and tuck” encounter ran out 14-13 winners.

Spartans found themselves 8-3  down in their game against Madlams (Gordon Bradford, Derek Smith, Ian Smith, Mick Walker) and were facing the possibility of losing” 6” down at the next end to go 14-3 down. However skip David Holder had other ideas, as with his second bowl he ran the jack into the ditch for his side to go from “6” down to “2” up, to make the score 8-5. Spartans drew level at 8 shots each before a supreme effort by the Spartans team saw them run out 14-12 winners.

Carol and David Onions were the outstanding performers in Division 1 of the Tuesday Evening Pairs as the pair beat leaders of the Division ,Little & Large (Steve Rothwell, John Beverley) by 11 shots to 6. Little & Large scored at the first couple of ends before, at the third end David Onions played the jack to the side of the rink for his pair to score “4”. David and Carol then scored a “3” and two pairs to take a 11-3 lead before Little 7 Lathe replied at the final end with a “3”. Any games that Little & Large  find it difficult to fing their line and length is on rink 2 and so was the case in their defeat.

46ers (Derek Finch, Stewart Wright) registered their first win since gaining promotion to division 1, as they beat the experienced C. Dogs (Ray Clegg, Michael Hutchinson) by 8 shots to 3.

In Division 2 Pat & Pete ( Pat and Peter Grant) faced their friends and challengers Jammy Duo (Danny Leather, Neil Mort). In an outstanding performance by Jammy Duo, Leather and Mort ran out 12-6 winners.

Pals (Elspeth Hartley, Sandra Cooper) gained their first points of their present campaign as they drew 8 shots each to the fast improving Rainy Days (Katie and Russell Gilbert.)

Saxons (David Armitage, Peter Lomax, Peter Greenwood, David Laycock) and Clayton (Tony Riley, Mel Fielding, Hedley Kettlewell, Paul Gill) had a superb game in the Wednesday Evening Fours. At the start of the last end the scores were level at 14 shots each and with one minute left on the clock the teams began their final end which Clayton scored a single to take the game by 15 shots to 14. A feature of the game was that Saxons scored a maximum of 8 shots at one end to win a Hotshots award, but Clayton responded with two “4’s” on either end before and after Saxon’s Hotshots award.

All the players thoroughly enjoyed the game which contained very skillful play plus a bit of luck, which is what happens in indoor bowling.
