Another pair going from strength to strength are Carol and David Onions, as playing in Division 1 of the Tuesday evening Pairs for 2B’s they beat 46ers (Derek Finch, Stewart Wright) by 13 shots to 3.

In the Monday Evening Fours Madlams ( Gordon Bradford, Derek Smith, Ian Smith, Mick Walker) were involved in an exciting game against high flying Up the Edge (Andy Balmforth, John Sharp, Keith Hatzer, Tom Gasson). The star of the game was Up the Edge’s Tom Gasson who starred for his team; playing as “skip” he took out several scoring woods and added shots to his teams total. The “skip” for Madlams, Mick Walker also played a crucial role in this “nip and tuck” encounter as at the penultimate end with Up the Edge holding a “5”, he reduced the deficit to “2” and at the final end with Madlams holding a 15-11 lead he took out three shots for “Up the Edge” to score a single and make the final score 16-11 to Madlams.

The Fridays (John Crowson, Eleanor Carney, Chris Lindsey) put up a superb performance in Division 2 of the Friday Triples as they beat the top team Sutty’s Heroes (John Sutcliffe, Peter Atherton, Douggie Gordon) by 13 shots to 8.

There are now three teams in with a chance of promotion in the Division, with The Fridays moving on to 12 points along with Bob’s Kingdom.(Carol Onions, David Onions, Bob Kingdon). Bob’s Kingdom made it 6 wins from 9 games played as they beat Friends (Sandra Cooper, Susan Swift, Sylvia Allott) by 19 shots to 4.

The big game in the Thursday Evening Triples featured the leaders Madlams (Gordon Bradford, Malcolm Griffiths, Derek Smith) and Little & Large (David Laycock, Ian Smith, John Beverley). Little & large moved into a 10-2 lead with leader Laycock out bowling the number 1 player for Madlams, Bradford and skip for Little & Large Beverley, pushing out “shot” bowls and adding additional “shots” when required.

However during the middle of the game, Bradford began to take control with excellent leading and the skip for Madlams Smith played his part in Madlams fight back as Madlams pulled back level at 10 shots each. At the penultimate end Madlams  scored a single to take an 11-10 advantage, at the final end Beverley  bowled in for “shot” to Little & Large but narrowly failed with his second bowl for the teams to finish with honours even at 11 shots each. This was truly a “game of two halves”.

Well done to Hotpots (Garry Plane, Jennifer Plane, Dan Stevanard) who gained their first win of the season with a 17-15 win over light Relief (Ken Crossfield, Tony Haigh, Trevor Roper).
