Hoyle’s War (M. Skuse, D, Frost, Lorraine Hirst, R. Gartside) registered their win of the season in Division 1 of Halifax Bowling Club’s Winter league. Up against the unbeaten Fiery Jacks (Mick Walker, Jim Eaton, Gordon Bradford, Brian Needham), Hoyle’s War led by Yorkshire county player Lorraine Hirst all registered wins. Hirst beat Bradford 21-14 as Skuse defeated Walker 21-17, Frost beat Eaton 21-16 and Gartside won 21-17 over Needham as Hoyle’s War ran out 20-12 winners and moved up the league table.

In Division 2 the pre season favourites, Simply the Best and Mavericks are setting the pace. Both teams registered maximum 20 points in their latest games. Simply the Best (Lyn Saxby, Julie Best, Chris Barker, Lyn Carter) beat Tykes (Sandra Hutchinson, Brian Liversedge, Stephen Lees, Gary Robinson) by 20 points to 5 and Mavericks (Steve Holmes, Eric McGinnis, David Bowden, Steve Wandiak) restricted Blue Sox (David Harrison, Peter Gregory, Pat Grant, Neil Dickie) to 6 points. Sowerby (Pat Skene, John Sharp, Baz Morgan, Glenda Hartley) moved into third place in the division with a strong 20-6 success over Pirates (P. Cleary, P. Wright, David Craven, K. Whalley).
