Hoyle’s War (Shirley Dillingham, Lorraine Hirst, R. Gartside, M. Skuse) were the outstanding performers in Division 1 of Halifax Bowling Club’s winter league, as they beat leaders Clayhouse (Tony Riley, Ian Johnson, Hedley Kettlewell, C. Wilson) by 14 points to 12. Shirley Dillingham was superb as she beat Riley 21-8. Gartside also beat Kettlewell 21-8. For Clayhouse, Johnson beat county bowler Hirst 21-10 and Wilson defeated Skuse 21-11 as Hoyle’s War moved up the table with a narrow victory. Clayhouse still lead the division with 72 points from their 4 games played. Rabbits Revenge are in second place with 66 points.

In Division 2,, the three outstanding teams Mavericks, Sowerby and Simply the Best all registered impressive wins. Mavericks( Steve Holmes, Steve Wandiak, David Boden, Eric McGinnus) had two winners in their 16-11 success against Tykes (Gary Robinson, Steve Lees, Brian Liversedge, Michael Hutchinson). The best performance was by Lees and Hutchinson for Tykes as Lees beat Wandiak 21-18 and Hutchinson defeated McGinnus 21-19.

Simply the Best (Lyn Saxby, Julie Best, Chris Barker, Lyn Carter) beat next to the bottom Pirates (David Craven, Peter O’Callaghan, P. Cleary, Keith Whalley) by 17 points to 10. O’Callaghan was the lone success for Pirates as he beat Best 21-13.

Sowerby (L. Mitchell, Glenda Hartley, Pat Skene, John Sharp) registered an impressive 20-7 win against bottom of the table All Sorts( Helen Smith, Peter Willoughby, Ann Oates, Mavis Walker) to move only one point behind Mavericks in the league table. Simply the Best are top of the table with 72 points, Mavericks have 69 points.
