INDOOR BOWLING RESULTS (WEEK 9).docx

There was lots of exciting action in the Tuesday Evening pairs at Halifax Bowling Club.46ers (Derek Finch, Stewart Wright) gained a “Hot Shots Award” in their game against Brookley (Elspeth Hartley, Rhonda Horner). A “Hot Shots Award” is where a team score the maximum number of shots at one end. On this occasion Finch, the lead player for 46ers played the jack into the back corner of the rink and the players had to play nearest the jack. Hartley, the lead player for Brookley sent all her four bowls off the end of the rink and Horner could not improve the situation as Wright bowled in another four bowls as 46ers scored an “8”. The final score was 18-2 to 46ers.

The top teams in Division 1 and Division 2 were in opposition. From Division 1 Young Guns (Chloe Hirst, Gareth Coates)  came from behind to beat leaders Golden Girls (Bea Grant, Sue Gormley). Golden Girls has an early advantage but superb play by Young Guns saw them run out 15-3 winners.

The game between leaders Valley Boys (Mick Skwarek, Keith Hanson) and B. & D. (Barbara Gee, David Armitage) was a much closer affair.

With Skwarek leading a maximum length jack Valley Boys held a 7-4 adavantage with two ends to play.  At the penultimate end Valley Boys were holding a “5”  with all their bowls within 6” of the jack. Armitage  bowled the perfect bowl to rest on Valley Boys bowls to score a single and make the score 7-5 going into the last end.

Gee changed the jack length and bowled a short to medium length. Her first bowl finished “jack high” 6” at the side of the jack. Skwarek was through with his four bowls. With the two skips left to play Armitage bowled another three shots into the head with Hanson short. With his 4th bowl Armitage knocked the nearest Valley Boys bowl out of the head for B. & D. to hold 5 shots. With his last bowl of the game Hanson was instructed to bowl “into the head” by his partner Skwarek ,but he sent his bowl slightly narrow and just missed the head for B. & D. to gain a 10-7 success.

Rastrick, a new team in the Autumn leagues have moved up into second place in the Wednesday Evening Fours. Their best performance of the season saw Geff Normanton, Dave Wood, Trevor Heley and Mick Carter gain a narrow 14-13 success against the experienced Clayton “A” (Tony Riley, Mel Fielding, Andy Tate, Paul Gill). In a “nip and tuck” encounter the sides were level with one end to play. During the game Rastrick had scored a “5” and Clayton had responded with a “4” but all the other ends were close. With Rastrick holding shot, Gill, the skip for Clayton played through but narrowly missed the jack as Rastrick ran out winners.
