Christine Austin and Frank Sykes, Keen bowlers

There was an outstanding game played at Halifax Bowling Club during the Molly Donovan Handicap Singles Competition recently.

A first round game featured two players with a total age of 178 years. The game played in a most competitive nature featured 88 year old Halifax Ladies player Christine Austin and 90 year old Frank Sykes. Christine won the jack and immediately took Frank corner to corner. In a “nip and tuck” encounter Christine took the honours by 21-19.

Christine still plays four league games a week for the Halifax club. In the Monday Evening Elland league, the Tuesday afternoon Yorkshire Parks league, the Thursday evening Brighouse Ladies league and the Friday Afternoon Senior Ladies League.

Frank is in the last eight of the Huddersfield Vets Final and plays eight league games a week for Halifax and also bowls in the club’s winter league.

We have two indoor rinks. Leagues commence the middle of September and run until Easter.
